Kitesurfing season in Sicily – general characteristics
In Sicily, you can kitesurf almost year-round, but the main season runs from mid-April to the end of October. This is when air and water temperatures are most favorable, and thermal or local winds (such as the mistral) provide optimal conditions. In the winter months, the wind is less consistent and often accompanied by rain.

A Monthly Guide to Kitesurfing Conditions in Sicily
March
The season is starting – air temperature around 15-18°C, water still cool (around 15°C). The wind is already picking up, often with strong but irregular gusts. We’re not yet starting training; we’re waiting for more reliable conditions.
April
Temperatures rise to around 19-23°C, the water begins to warm, and thermal winds become more stable, making April one of the best starts to the season. It’s the perfect time to learn and enjoy your first freeride sessions.
May
Air temperatures are already reaching 22-25°C, and the water is significantly warmer. The wind is stable and regular, often blowing most days. May is one of the best months in terms of comfort and wind intensity.
June – July – August
This is the summer season, with air temperatures reaching up to 30°C and warm water (25-28°C). Thermal winds blow daily, especially in the afternoon, guaranteeing good conditions for kitesurfing. Summer also brings longer days, extending the time for kitesurfing. The most common winds are the Mistral and the southerly Scirocco.
September
Air and water temperatures remain high (around 25-28°C). Thermal winds remain stable, and wind intensity may increase with the first autumn gusts. This is the perfect month to escape the Polish autumn and go kitesurfing.
October
The beginning of the autumn season – air temperatures begin to drop to 20-23°C, the water is still warm. Winds can be strong and more variable. We stay in Sicily until almost the end of the month, as the weather is still reliable.
November
Temperatures drop to around 15-18°C, the water becomes cooler, but winds are still frequent and the weather is less predictable. Conditions are challenging and less comfortable, but still manageable for ambitious swimmers.
December – February
This is the winter period, when air temperatures drop below 15°C and the water can be cold (around 14-16°C). Winds are present, but less frequent and more erratic. This is more of a time for local surfers, as good conditions only occasionally emerge.
